Reciprocity is perhaps the most powerful influence tool we have. All of us have a sense of obligation to pay back to those who have first given to us. The research is clear, people say yes to those they owe.
Therefore our challenge is to invoke the reciprocity principle by finding ways to give to others especially in a business sense and then they will want to give back to us. The three rules of networking are “give first, give first and give first”.
When in a networking environment look for the person standing alone and introduce yourself. They will repay you tenfold by introducing you to everyone they know.
